I’m So Lonely

How can you live in a house with 4 other people in it and be so lonely?  :heavysigh:  Mark isn’t interested in talking to me….and certainly the kids aren’t interested in talking to me.  The kids I understand, I’m with them all day long teaching them, reading to them, telling them what to do.  But Mark?  I don’t know.  I guess I understand.  It is the time of year when we start feeling kind of housebound.  The temps are kind of cool to be out walking around, and we don’t have anywhere really to go.  So we sit in the same house, not talking to each other, not interacting…….just being.

I should try to engage them, you say?  pfffffft!  I’ve been doing that all morning.  I give up.  I’m tired of trying.  I’m lonely as hell and want someone to talk to……I don’t care what we talk about……I just want to talk.  Mom would understand.  She knew all about lonely sometimes.

I remember being with her when we lived in Erie, PA.  She used to drive around the neighborhoods and say out loud, “I wonder if someone in that house needs a friend?”  “Maybe there’s a woman in that house that would like to have a cup of coffee with me?”  She never found anyone there to chat with……nor in the next town, Schaumburg, IL.  Sure, she would find some neighbor that would talk over the fence, but never for more then a few minutes….and never over a lazy cup of coffee.

How ironic that I should wind up living her life all over again!!!  Here I sit, often wondering if there is a neighbor woman who needs some company.  Is someone near me sitting in her house, wondering if she’ll ever have a “real-life” friend?  I’m sure there is.  I should start a group…..”Only the lonely homemakers” group.  LOL  Sad.

I remember Mom giving me a floppy stuffed Cocker Spaniel dog who would say different phrases when you squeezed his tummy.  One of our favorite phrases was, “I’m so lonely,” in the most melancholy voice.  I think of that stuffed animal all the time…..his ear fell off one time and Mom sewed it back on.  He received many tears in his fuzzy body and Mom always sewed him back up.  I miss him…..and Mom.  I found some pictures of him online, his name was Napper.

  1. I think a LOT of people have this problem. It's modern life. Everyone is so busy--and if you're a stay-at-home mom, no one is home all day and at night it's supposed to be "family" time. I've been living this way for years. I'd give my right arm to have ONE lady in this neighborhood to talk to, but that's not happened in 4 years and I've given up.
I wish you the best. It's tough. If it weren't for the online community, I think I'd lose my mind. I miss my best friend from IL. Talking on the phone just isn't the same..............

  2. Thanks for understanding, Sue. I agree, I think modern society has just gone this way. Not too many people in my socio-economic level are single income...we're very fortunate that I can stay home and homeschool the kids, but it does make for some lonely times for all of us.

Another thing we are running into is that it seems, as we get older (I'm 50 and Mark is 57) that we are "the old ones". We had our kids later in our lives and we don't mesh with other parents with kids our age...and add to that the fact that we don't drink and aren't into sports. We are the weird ones. LOL Oh well, think how boring life would be if we were all the same. LOL

  3. I keep forgetting you're old. LOL *duck* *grin*

In my case, I don't think it would matter. I just don't connect with hardly anyone.

Mark should've found a job near me. We'd have the best time, Pam. Well, unless in person I'd give off that vibe that makes people not want to hang out with me.

  4. Nah...we'd hang out. Vibe or no vibe....I'm easy that way. LOL Just ask Mark! He had a hard time getting repeat dates with anyone....he says he married me because I was one of the few that ever dated him more than once. :)
